Our beautiful village

In 2018 the Norfolk Coast Area celebrated 50 years as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Knapton Village is a jewel in the crown that is the North Norfolk Coast

Settled on top of a small hill 43m above seal level, in a designated Area of Outstanding Beauty, our beautiful village is surrounded by open fields and broccoli-like woodland, criss-crossed with meandering footpaths and quiet leafy lanes with views of the sea and the North Norfolk coast.

In 2011, according to the Census, Knapton had a population of 364 residing in 190 households, covering an area of 5.80 square kilometres.

What the census fails to mention is the beauty of the area that surrounds us, the close knit community spirit that bonds us and the history of a thousand year old traditional Norfolk village.

The market town of North Walsham provides our nearest railway station with regular train services to Cromer, Sheringham and Norwich via the Bittern Line.

Market day is Thursday and it offers a range of shops and supermarkets including Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and LIDL, as well as the Victory Swim and Fitness Centre.

The vibrant Norfolk holiday resort of Cromer is just 8 miles to the north and offers a wide variety of cafes, restaurants, shops, including a Morrisons.   It has a movie-plex cinema, the pier with it’s world famous theatre and the highest church tower in Norfolk.
Due to Peregrine Falcons nesting the tower is occasionally closed.

The area around us has a good selection of hotels, pubs, coffee shops and restaurants and  and a cinema and theatre at the recently constructed Atrium in the grounds of North Walsham High School. For those interested in sailing or ‘messing about’ in boats the Norfolk Broads are on our doorstep and for golfing enthusiasts, the Mundesley Golf Club is just down the road.
